The Apocalypse

“He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”

John 3:36 (KJV, Holy Bible)

We’re all familiar with movies or the myriad of books on the topic. But do we understand what the apocalypse really is? I’m sure for most, doom and gloom will come to mind. But that’s not all there is to it.

Before we can understand the Way out, we need to know what exactly it is we want to be saved from.

What is the Apocalypse?

The word Apocalypse comes from the Greek word Apokalupsis, which means to disclose truth or to reveal. Hence ‘Revelation’ being the title of the final book of the Bible. The book of Revelation is literally the revelation of Jesus Christ given to John to document for the followers of Christ so that they could know in advance what would happen and when to expect His return.

Now a revelation in itself does not necessarily spell disaster. But we know that even for unbelievers who borrow bits of this fascinating Biblical writing to use in movies or books, the word Apocalypse does not conjure up warm, fuzzy feelings. And that is because what Jesus revealed of the days to come was not a Utopia with people holding hands beneath a rainbow. There will be a very short-lived and falsely perceived notion of peace under the rule of the anti-christ, but he will use that to gain global control and once established, he’ll reveal his true agenda and cause bloodshed like the world has never seen.

Hollywood loves using the global disasters foretold in the Bible to make epic block busters with mind blowing special effects, but they lose the plot by almost always using a narrative where a hero steps onto the scene to save the day. Nations set aside their differences to unify against a common threat and ultimately the world is a better place through the efforts of people, either on their own or with the help of some super human / hybrid fighting on their behalf because the human race was deemed worthy of being saved. Whichever way you look at it, the message is that salvation lies with man, or is granted because of mankind’s worthiness. That seems sweet and innocent enough, if it was not for the unpopular fact that humanity is the very reason the apocalypse will happen. Man’s misplaced belief that he needs no redemption or has the ability to save himself will be his downfall. Man became prideful and believed he has no need of God. Man becomes his own god. Pride and idolatry are things God hates. And the just judgement for these crimes is severe. No matter what Hollywood tries to tell you, there’s no preventing or stopping the Apocalypse. It is the destiny of this earth. And once you’re in it, the only escape is death. Although that will be out of the frying pan and into the fire for those who die while not in Christ1, and not even an option for some2.

1 So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just, And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Matthew 13:49-50 (KJV, Holy Bible)

2 And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them.

Revelation 9:6 (KJV, Holy Bible)

The Way out

Now for the great news! None of these things need to be of concern to you.

God does not want you to experience His wrath. God’s deepest desire is that not a single person should remain unsaved. But that remains your choice. Jesus paid the price. But to receive the benefits a person needs to accept Jesus as the Son of God and personal Saviour, and allow Him to change your life to be what God wants. If you’ve truly accepted Jesus into your life, you’ll have nothing to fear from either death, the apocalypse or even hell. Should you die before the apocalypse begins, you’ll be with Him in heaven. And if you’re still alive, He will fetch you before He judges the earth. This is called the Rapture.

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

John 14:6 (KJV, Holy Bible)
